Gypsy didn’t know she wasnt sick for a long time, she only knew she could walk. Deedee forced medication on her that gave adverse reactions making her “sick”

Homeopathy and healing (including faith healing) are some of the worst hoaxes/frauds due to how widespread it is.

There's a documentary on HBO about Gypsy and her mom it's really a tragic story

#2 is a case of Munchausen's Syndrome BY PROXY. In regular Munchausen's the person does harm to themselves & seeks medical treatment.

There is a coude cath!! It’s used for men with prostate inflammation when a reg cath cant be anchored.
Michał Płaczek (2 months ago)
Publishing medical related content requires some knowledge and responsibility as false claims may cause harmful consequences. Thus it is quite disappointing to see your claims regarding coude catheters. The 1957 hoax was not a question of the mere invention but dr. Coude himself, as such individual never existed. "Coude" is a French term for elbow and was used in regards to the shape of the catheter itself. Claims that coude catheters are fraudulent invention, that they are "extremely painful to use" and that many medical professionals are ignorant of these facts is untrue and proves poor research. Maybe just once you should use actual books, not dubious internet sources?
Jeffrey Schweitzer (2 months ago)
Coude just means elbow in French and is a description of the shape. These are very much real as even a cursory search will show. The hoax was just a prank we all used to play on medical students. Straight catheters are called Foley catheters, names for a Dr Foley, so the prank was asking students to tell us whom the Coude catheter was named for, to see how many would say “Dr Coude.”

Ecuadorian here. The Vilcabamba hoax was never meant to be one. It was originally a very tongue-in-cheek tall tale to attract tourists and sell stuff from the place, but since there are always idiots who take everything too seriously, it was blown out of proportion. In the height of the "hoax" several news crews actually traveled and did reports on the place putting all the rumors to rest once and for all; although a few gullible types still peddle the tale, it is not taken seriously anymore.

7:28 When you derive pleasure from faking an illness of your child, or sometimes even making them sick yourself, it is NOT called "Munchausen Syndrome". It is called "Munchausen by proxy." VERY well known term. I'm surprised the narrator got it wrong.

No "vaccines cause autism" ?
Rafał Zygadło (2 months ago)
+Stephen Hill I am asking why one of the hoaxes on the top 10 list was not "vaccines cause autism".
Stephen Hill (2 months ago)
Rafal That is a clever use of words spoilt by the question mark at the end. Or have I missed something?
John Opalko (2 months ago)
#6 _"Coude"_ (sorry; don't know how to add an _accent aigu_ on a U.S. keyboard) is French for "bent like an elbow." and would be pronounced something like, "koo-DAY." It's not someone's name. According to _Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary,_ Twenty-sixth Edition, W. B. Saunders Company, 1985, it is another name for an elbowed catheter, which is defined as "one with a sharp bend near the beak; used principally in cases of enlarged prostate."

You forgot "Vaccines Cause Autism" hoax... That crap is the greatest threat to public health today.
Annie Worroll (2 months ago)
I was living in Springfield MO when the Gypsy Blanchard case happened. It was horrifying. It's worth noting with that case that it was an easy 1st degree murder charge, which would have been life. The prosecutor agreed to a plea deal for minimum time on 2nd degree, because he has some humanity apparently.
ninjaxsam (2 months ago)
A little nit pick, Munchausen Syndrome is when you pretend to be sick for attention/money. If a parent does it to a child it is Munchausen-by-proxy.
BrewBlaster (2 months ago)
You mean that media people report things as fact without real research? Imagine that.
Laura Litfin (2 months ago)
I am super confused- I am a urology nurse and we use Coude catheters for enlarged prostates..... Its not a hoax, its actually very helpful and still used very often
Emily Lauren (2 months ago)
#2 - It's actually Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, or Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another.
Babbleplay (2 months ago)
Munchhausen Syndrome is when you make yourself sick. Munchhausen by proxy is when you do it to a child/someone else. Sorry to nitpick.
CologneCarter (2 months ago)
+Babbleplay Munchhausen people don't believe to be ill, they just pretend to get attention. Hypochondriacs actually believe to be ill and their problem is rather the fear of dying or drawn out suffering.
Babbleplay (2 months ago)

but the coude catheter does work but not exactly how they initially invented it. only the very tip of the catheter is denser rubber and bent so it can go around obstuctions.
Patricia Alexander (2 months ago)
I believe ADHD and other similar cases are all due to lazy parenting, now it’s Autism it does exist because I’ve seen it and it quite distressing but now governments have made up a broad spectrum theme and now everyone has it! Once again much is lazy or bad parenting s it’s the modern day excuse for kids who are out of control The parents just say ‘oh, he has Autism’ In a smug tone when little Noah has strangled the neighbours cat It must be costing the government much the same as our sponging asylum seekers’.
Stephen Hill (2 months ago)
Patricia Are you a man. I think you are. You wouldn't know autism from your own arsehole. Nothing to do with bad parenting you unpleasant person.
Brandon Thailand (2 months ago)

Mark Michael (2 months ago)
Just one slight correction #2, the diagnosis is technically Munchausen by PROXY, considering it was the mother who "believed" the daughter was sick
Mimi S. (2 months ago)

David Ellis (2 months ago)
As a practising urologist, I have to call you out on the Coude catheter. The name being eponymous is a hoax though - it's French for elbow. Very helpful for getting past enlarged prostates and for other reasons. I'd be surprised if I use less than 100 per year.

Personally I believe there is a difference in a fraud and a hoax. A hoax is not always a fraud as fraud is specifically about obtaining money by deception. However hoaxes usually have other motives like humour, or bringing attention to something.

Your videos doesn't show up in subscriber feed for a week now... What is this..
Matthew Amann (2 months ago)
I'm a RN, we use coudae caths all the time (they are no hoax). They have a slight bend at the end and come to more of a point (as opposed to a regular foley that has a blunt end). They are used on mostly male patients when a foley won't pass, fo example, an enlarged prostate. Also, the male urethra makes a sharp bend before the bladder and the coudae cath passes easier.
Hank W (1 month ago)
I didn't even know that caths were rigid.
ian29cent (2 months ago)
Matthew Amann The hoax is claiming it was named after Dr. Emil Coudé. No such person exists. Coudé is French for elbow. It was invented by Louis Mercier.
Aaron Jones (2 months ago)

Munchausens syndrome by proxy.
Gordon Lawrence (2 months ago)
In the UK given Gypsies age and what she had been through it is possible she would have been sent to a secure psychiatric unit for evaluation then received a "licence". IE monitored by the police in public. There is potentially a case for extenuating circumstances and diminished responsibility.
Maria Kelly (2 months ago)
I also noticed that Simon got the diagnosis a little bit wrong. There are 2 types of Munchausen's Syndrome. Munchausen's is when a person fakes illnesses to get attention from other people. Munchausen's By Proxy is when someone deliberately makes their child physically ill. The person then gets praise from everyone around them for giving up their life to care for the sick child.

Number two. That poor girl didn’t deserve 10 years. Her family flushed her mother’s ashes down the Toilet. Witch somehow made me feel better.
MissN Perfection (1 month ago)
No she deserves to be in jail..she picked up on her mother's manipulative behavior and started acting out on it and still acts out on it! There are lots of victims of serious Munchausen by Proxy,Child Abuse, Sexual abuse and other cruelties but that doesn't mean they contort a twisted plot to kill their abuser! All Gypsy needed to do was walk right into a police station...her walking alone would've gave it away! Instead she was too busy sexually role playing, having sex in movie theater mens room's, on her mother bed and then her writing those horrible Facebook posts! First she said she wasn't involved at all, then she was a little bit, then not all.."Daddy don't believe anything of the awful things they say about me on the news none of it's true". ..and it was! It's not that I don't have sympathy for her..I do but I also see the dangerous side of her! I see another Dee Dee!

I am going to start off with saying I am NOT an anti-vaxxer, my son has had all of his vaccinations and I don't tell people not to get them.  I do however find it somewhat alarming just how quick people are to have you sacrifice your child's health or worse for them to believe in herd immunity.  Many of these people say something like "parents that don't get their kids vaccinated should be put in jail" and are perfectly happy knowing that even if it's a 1 in a million chance of a kid dyeing from the vaccine that means if every child in the world was vaccinated then statistically 1900 children will die from it. I would feel better about putting a member of the vaccine company's top brass in jail for every kid that has a major complication from getting the vaccine before jailing the parents.  Gone are the days of just blindly believing in what doctors, big pharma, politicians, the news etc. tells you.  People need to do their research and educate theirselves on the risks before they do whet ever.  I say this from experience.  My son has many non-vaccine related medical problems that me blindly following the doctor's bad (but well meaning) advice have inadvertently made worse.  I can tell you that it is hard to live with yourself knowing you have made your sons health/life worse, even if it was an innocent mistake.

The medical community thought I was an investment,  long story short I'm all about whose left in humanity and the human race, don't believe in health, balance or fixing anything here.  If I'm not in the future, my job now is to be The King of The Preppers preparing to preserve everything and all life for the end of the world.  I only believe in medicine because of legality and I'm forced to,  nobody better violate my DNR.  Glad that obamacare is gone and only the strongest survive trumpcare takes over.  I'm planning to die pretty soon by a hater so wish me well unless you love me to be your boss.  My birthday or Chinese new year, find a safe place.  Then next birthday if not this.
