Can anyone help me with a plot hole? Watching the pilot. The versions of people there are so different, and they say it started in the 40s. Butterfly effect, anyone? At that rate of change, their present would be so different that the same people won't exist. Okay, maybe they are finding people intentionally to work there who has their genetic double (would be a rare occurrence). The same tie, are you kidding me? Or the differences only appear at the point of contact between two worlds?
Heather Graham (1 month ago)
Vlad Kostin This is my understanding (via. The Pilot episode). During the Cold War (1947-1991), 30 years back (ie. So around 1988), an experiment performed by Eastern Scientists went wrong. We don't know what they did exactly, that is still a mystery. Anyway, whatever they did, it created an opening, a passage (ie. Now referred to as The Crossing) underneath the building they did the experiment in (ie. The current O.I. or Office of Interchange). Basically, our world was duplicated and it created an exact parallel world only 30 years ago. It didn't always exist. I don't think I would compare anything here to the butterfly effect because the "butterfly effect" would likely be tied to certain events changing|shifting within the timeline of the same universe|world, not between the two universes|worlds. We are now talking about 2 completely different worlds|universes operating side by side. The events occuring within the second world|universe started out identical to ours because it was copied from ours (ie. Which explains the same shared histories with the doubles) but after the door (the Crossing) was opened, certain choices and events started to diverge within the duplicated universe (2nd world), compared to the original, leading to a whole 2nd world of our duplicates|identicals having different experiences or outcomes. Our paths branched off more and more so it appears that perhaps the use of the passage itself (ie. The Crossing) somehow contributed to altering things between the Counterparts? Not sure how or why that would happen but that would be my presumption. If we considered the butterfly effect linked to only our world, we could maybe argue the Eastern Scientists created this effect 30 years prior if they interfered with the original timeline of our world by making the Crossing appear? Then we would have to argue our original universe|world is operating within an altered timeline where different choices|events resulted from our world using the Crossing; things that never would have happened had the Scientists never made the mistake in the first place. Our original characters as we know them could have lives that were different. Quayle, for instance, likely would never be with Claire nor would he hold a director's position in an O.I. job because there would be no use of an O.I. Or perhaps everything up until the point that the Crossing actually got used was all "original timeline," even the mistake, but after it was opened, then our original world got slammed with an alternate timeline? Maybe in the end we will discover using the Crossing created alternate outcomes for our world too? See, if the Crossing had only appeared but never got used, with the O.I. created only to monitor it, perhaps we would have kept on with 2 duplicate worlds where everything just remained identical in both worlds as the years passed by. There are certain events that make me wonder about this, like for example, with Howard & Emily's daughter Anna? She is alive and well in the copied uinverse but, in our universe, Emily miscarried her so she was never born. Is that an alternate consequence for our world because of The Crossing being used and because things were changing on both sides? Or was Anna being miscarried always going to be part of the original timeline of our world and her being born is just a major shift for the duplicated world? Hm. But all this begs the question was "the mistake" always part of the original timelime? Or would "not making the mistake" be what is part of an alternate timeline in our world, lol? This line of thought can get quite messy and I just don't know if they are going there. Offscreen, the show is also referring to the characters from our world as "Alpha" and the ones from the parallel universe as "Prime." So I gather we are supposed to be viewing it like our world is the original one, still in its original format and original timelime with "the mistake" in place as part of it, giving us the way things carried on with the Crossing appearing to us and our world using it, leading to an O.I and its jobs, so no butterfly effect here (ie. As I suspect opening & repeatedly using IT is what ultimately changed things somehow on the other side as the timelines then moved forward simultaneously in both worlds). However, the 2nd universe|world is likely the one that directly experienced the big shifts|changes because it was actually the copied universe|world. There is also the entire question surrounding why only their side experienced the flu epidemic of the 1990s, wiping out 7% of their world population, while our side did not experience it? Was it intentionally perpetrated by one side (ours) or the other (theirs) OR was the Universe course correcting itself | the perceived mistake that was made? However, throughout all this, I have noticed the biggest message being stressed appears to be that regardless of what universe, or timeline, or even the different outcomes, at the core of it all "you are still you." We are who we are.

Calling it now on the other side the USSR won the Cold War hence the story having the timelines diverge 30 years ago (1988) right before the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the USSR. Also, having the show set in Berlin mirror having to cross from West Berlin(the American side) to East Berlin(the Soviet side). There are also differences in the quality of vodka and the reverse R that's common in Russian.

I thought that this show was going to have more science fiction in it. Instead it’s all about spies. It’s getting king of boring. But I am going to stick it out for a couple more episodes and if doesn’t improve, I will probably stop watching it.

Just watched the pilot, interesting....its like Fringe distilled down to just the alternate universe mytharc minus the science and add spyfiction. Or simply Fringe and one of John le Carré's work had a baby !
Dinkie Shots (19 days ago)
TheVandrell This sci - fi is an example of truth hidden in plain sight. This series cleverly depicts the Global C'est tui que Trust system and C'est tui use rights operative in the two legal worlds - one governed by Maritime / Admiralty Law and the other by the law of the Land. Your flesh and blood resides in the flesh and blood living world, while your COUNTERPART "resides" in the other. The world of Commerce is that other world. You think that you and your COUNTERPART' (COPY OF A CONTRACT IS ALSO CALLED A COUNTERPART)are one and the same person, while yous are not. and while in your state of ignorance/not knowing/ you act as vessel for your DEAD COUNTERPART, hence, as physical manifestation you two look the same, but you're not. Separate the two and you'll start to understand who you are and who your COUNTERPART is that emerged when the POWERS THAT BE split our worlds at the final stage of refinement of the global system when the International Bank of Settlement was established after WWI.

Parallell universes a great concept for a sci fi
Dinkie Shots (19 days ago)
maps_747 Spot on!The series puts on screen the c'est tui que trust system. This simmons guy depicts the mechanics of the c'est tui que trust global system, where our world is split (with the establishment of the International Bank of Settlements in 1931) by two legal system streams, one land law and the other maritime - in one i am flesh and blood and in the other i'm the counterpart - which btw is the name for a copy contract. the law of contract is a cornerstone of the global commercial world in which our flesh and blood floats as vessels for our counterpart on the sea of commerce. Notice Howard saying that he works there for 30 years but he doesnt know what they do there - nor does the average flesh and blood man in the flesh and blood world - he knows not that he is a separate living Sovereign being, separate from his COUNTERPART in the 'other world', whose name is spelt in ALL CAPS on bank accounts, birth certs etc trade, live, work etc. we serve as vessels for our counterparts, thinking that we are one and the same being, while we live in two different realms/worlds. your flesh and blood that came out of your mother's waters live in one realm and your counterpart in the other, but at the moment you dont see it, coz you think that you are one and the same person. Your counterpart lives in a dead realm, i.e the corporate world, where it lives as a corporation.

Great pilot. I like that idea that the show is hammering into you that "you are you". I'm really wondering what event or force made the two Howard's so different. Also, they seem to already be influencing each other as well (or should I say... the two Howard's simply bring each others' dormant side to the surface). And JK Simmons is awesome!

This was quite boring. I just don't understand why writers seem to think Science Fiction needs to be boring these days. Star Trek wasn't boring, Stargate SG1 wasn't boring. This, Westworld, The Expanse...just sleep inducing. Whatever.

Jake Dylan, They surely dont! This sci - fi is an example of truth hidden in plain sight. Boy please. Star Trek was so pretentious and phony. Some of us like to think. We don't need special effects, car crashes, suck face and fucking blaring in our face constantly to be entertained. This isn't a James Bond feature :/

Watched 4th episode of Counterpart yesterday, it looks like things are getting good. End of that episode sort of sets it up to get interesting. I hope... Looks good, got JK Simmons x 2! Who's care's if it's a "Fringe" clone if it's good/entertaining? Writing and acting is what's important. Never saw "Fringe", so this will be a good one to check out on it's own merits and I won't be comparing it to another show.
Heather Graham (1 month ago)
I saw Fringe, liked it, but I think this show tells a much better alternate universe story. It's kind of like Fringe meets James Bond, lol, because of all the "spy games" plot they got going on but other than a similar concept of a parallel-verse, Counterpart is not the same as Fringe.

youareonthetube1 (3 months ago)
@ Levity less than 1% of the worlds population are homosexual. a maximum (stretching the numbers and reaching ...) of 3.5% of americans are homosexual (most of them are in the entertainment industry.) The fact that so much homosexuality shows up in movies and television is a conspiracy. (see: Edward Bernay - see: CIA) Homosexuality is in EVERY SHOW. That is not representative of the actual number of persons that are active in that lifestyle and want to see that. To even the uneducated on why its in these shows it is a nuisance. Homosexuality is the unwelcome member to a party you are having and crashed the door to be there The party crasher. Not someone you dont like or dont want around, just someone that there is not enough common ground for social interaction on that level. Most people when polled believe the number of homosexuals to be in the high 20 to low 30% range of the population. They key words there are BELIEVED & RANGE. This "belief" is the evidence of the conspiracy. Its how Bernay works. The british think its the americans, The americans think its the british, everyone always thinks its someone else because the fact is. The group that is pushing homosexuality is so little, that they have to use these guerilla warfare tactics of hit and run to look like they are wanted everywhere. But they are just crashing the party. At the very most they should be represented as 3% of any casting and storyline if at all, homosexuality is not something that anyone I know sees everyday in real life. In real life someone homosexual is encountered every 4 years or so. Or as in some buildings at least 1 per 5 block radius in a crowded city area. Certain neighborhoods have a much higher rate as they are their neighborhoods. Bottom line. THIS CONSPIRACY NEEDS TO END.
