Join Sean Plott (a.k.a. Day) as he plays Magic the Gathering with former Minnesota Viking and present real-life geek Chris Kluwe in episode 2 of season 3!
Sean “Day” Plott faces off in a against former Minnesota Vikings punter and past, present, and future video gamer, tabletop gamer, and fan of all things nerdery, Chris Kluwe. As seasoned players, Chris and Sean will be playing more advanced decks this time around, with Chris playing a Blue/Black Control deck which is a horrible color for horrible people. Sean, on the other hand, will be playing a Green/White/Black Abzan deck. Once again, these decks are loaded with new Magic Origins cards and feature new spells and mechanics, so keep an eye out for spells like Demonic Pact and mechanics like Bolster!
How will Sean handle the onslaught of Blue that is Chris Kluwe? Who will truly rule Valuetown? Will Chris ever let Sean get a card in play? Sure.
Regardless of who wins, in the words of Sean Plott: May you go forth. May you fight the good fight and defeat all the Blues. And of course, may you draw well.
This season, Sean and the gang will be playing with Wizards of the Coast’s new Magic Origins Set, which tells the stories of how five of Magic’s most iconic planeswalkers began their journeys. The Magic Origins Set doesn’t release until July 17th, but you can get an exclusive sneak peak of one of the cards here!

What is this... "Blue"? That is being spoken of so often? Surely this is homebrew content, because MTG,- only has four colours, white black, red and green. And definately no other colours... *screams internally*.
Ironically it's not the counterspells or the bounce or thee removal that game Chris the killing advantage here. It was the massive amounts of card draw. While poor Sean was left top decking Chris was getting so much card advantage there was no way to overcome it. That's the true power of Blue, and to a lesser extent Black.
This is possibly my favourite episode of the show as a whole.
Chris is genuinely a funny guy, despite his admitted trolling (he's a good troll guys, no hate)
Don't believe me, watch Champions of MIdgard - Tabletop.
(PS bring back tabletop, mend those fences with Wil)
Despite seeming to be one sided, the fun they have and banter makes it not feel that way.
Given Sean's hate for Blue, this game exemplifies exactly how it works bc of Chris' expertise
Woo for Season 4 though
When Magic first came out, I was enamored of Black, and my GF, who hated Black, would regularly kick my hiney with her big white creatures. I still remember the game where I accidentally discovered the joys of blue. She still killed me, but got so frustrated in the process I didn't care. Most fun loss ever.
As someone who did play mtg 20 years ago my eyes are bleedig when i see wotc printing the same cards and ideas like in the past but with continuesly new names and pictures to give players the feeling all is fresh and new.
This episode is just Johnny bending over a Timmy which is all mtg has been about and all it will ever be about. Such a garbage game thanks to Maro and his boosted blue with counters that ruin the game.
Watched this after listening to an episode of the Opening Arguments podcast, in which Kluwe & the hosts discuss issues with the NFL is blackballing players who are qualified & skilled, but who hold a political opinion unpopular with some. Toward the end, it's mentioned that Kluwe has designed & released his own card game, Twilight of the Gods (English for Götterdämmerung or Ragnarok, which makes sense from a former Viking), which has similarities to Magic, but seems to be self-contained, rather than (randomly) collectible. I'm not really into sports, but it's cool to see someone who breaks some stereotypes by being a multiclass nerd/jock.
Learning and playing magic was on my bucket list after watching your show. I am 57 years with terminal cancer. Watching your show taught me how to play Magic and now my son game every day. Thank you for making my life just a little brighter in the time I have left. I don't want anything from you I just wanted you to know you made a difference.
