Warning: Strong Language
The bestselling author of The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck and Get Your Sh*t Together, Sarah Knight, outlines her "NotSorry Method" to stop spending time you don't have doing things you don't want to do in her
After fifteen years working in New York City's top publishing houses,Sarah Knight struck out on her own. Since then, her essay "I Quit My JobToday (And So Can You!)"- went viral, and her book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck: How to Stop Spending Time You Don't Have with People You Don't Like Doing Things You Don't Want to Do", became a bestseller. The escape from corporate life and transformation into an "accidental anti-guru" continued when she and her husband moved to Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic. Sarah's new book explains how to "Get Your Shit Together: How to Stop Worrying About What You Should Do So You Can Finish What You Need to Do and Start Doing What You Want to Do." Sarah graduated cum laude with a degree in English and American Literature from

Way to spread the message of selfishness. You may not want to go to a baby shower or to your coworkers retirement party but supporting other people is part of being a decent human being. Try to consider how bad you would feel if you had a baby shower that no one showed up to because your guests didn't give an F about it. If your creed is to only do things that you want to do, how can that be anything but selfish?
I suppose the speaker thinks that by using foul language she is making some kind of impact. What happened to the belief that using language like that is not professional? Is she speaking to a room full of pre-teens who think she’s really cool for using curse words. Also, if you really want to live a truly free life just keep one thing in mind. We are all going to die. We are not here forever. So use your time wisely and be nice to others. Everyday when you wake up know that it may be your last day. How do you want to live it? What is important?
In theory, this is just dandy, but the reality is somewhat different. I know because I decided that this was the way to go about fifteen years ago and I still have friendships that haven’t recovered in that time. If I’m going to the trouble and excitement and anticipation of throwing a dinner party and you flat-out tell me you’d rather not come I am likely to be hurt and insulted and it’s possible that I’ll never invite you to anything ever again. So, think twice before doing this because for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The point about socializing with colleagues in a sh*ty bar is hilarious. I hate those forced socials just to fake the team spirit. Most of them are nothing but pain: intrusive personal questions, boring personal “ oversharing” stories etc. We are already spending at least 80% of our time at work to give away the remaining 20%, while life is so short. For God’s sake, let’s do baby showers or whatever during lunch breaks (even better, coffee breaks). And sorry, I am not coming to the Easter hang out to hear about your basement renovations and kid camps.
yes you can eliminate some of these things but the speaker comes at this topic from a very luxurious position. the speaker was in a very successful job, quite probably good savings to facilitate lifestyle changes and has multiple options for what they can move on to in life. the things that keep most people stuck in these ruts is lack of higher education and career progression and are stuck in low paid jobs. In many cases they have family who are often dependant on them and even if they dont really want to be doing a lot of things in life that they are doing, they feel a deep obligation to continue them to help the people/family around them. This may include ageing parents, spouse and children, people with severe health conditions, anyone who you care for who is in some way dependant on you and may not be in a position to help themselves. i agree with some of the sentiment but it really isn't as easy as just snapping your fingers.
People laughing every time she says F*** is annoying. It's a very useful word. Not giving a F and being honest has consequences but if you follow your heart only it should set you free if you are brave enough.
i went to church years, until i learned it was not making me happy. I did not like most of the people and the Rev so i just quite going, changed email, and phone # And I feel ten times better and on my path to public speaking on my own.
Really good message, but how can I differentiate between "Things I don't give a f*ck about" and "Things I'd actually like to do but I'm to scared of doing because it lies out of my comfort zone"? Saying "I don't give a f*ck" would in the second case just be an excuse for not wanting to face my fears. Anybody understand what I mean ?... :/
If people constantly ask you ‘why do you think that?’ and then tell you why you are wrong and don’t allow you to question them, they don’t respect you. Listen to people that respect your thoughts and your time otherwise you will lose your mind.
